Overview
We are recruiting for a Senior Buyer to oversee procurement across multiple live schemes, with the potential to manage up to 12 sites as the region grows. Reporting directly to the Managing Director and working closely with Commercial and Pre-Construction teams, the Senior Buyer will provide purchasing and material support across projects. This role requires sourcing cost-effective materials that meet site needs, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to manage supplier relationships while organising rebates and group deals effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day procurement of project materials within existing agreements
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers
Lead negotiations and manage supplier terms and agreements
Resolve supplier issues and ensure smooth material flow
Monitor supplier performance, quality, pricing, and development
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
Prepare quotations and proposals proactively
Attend team meetings and site visits to provide procurement support
Communicate project requirements clearly to the supply chain
Maintain cost reports to optimise efficiency
Identify new suppliers and products
Collaborate with Commercial & Pre-Construction teams during tender stages to ensure accurate project costing
Assess and advise on commercial risks
Liaise regularly with Site Agents and Surveyors to ensure timely, accurate deliveries
Manage purchase orders and resolve invoice issues
Candidate Profile
Experience in groundworks or civil engineering procurement
Proven track record sourcing materials for groundworks sites
Strong knowledge of aggregates, asphalt, concrete, and drainage purchasing
Positive attitude and teamwork-focused, able to motivate others
Highly organised, detail-oriented, and passionate about delivering quality
Proactive in seeking efficient solutions and able to prioritise tasks effectively
Excellent communication skills, confident working across all levels
Professional, hardworking, and willing to go the extra mile
