On 02 May 2025, Pete Canavan, Managing Director of Edge Careers, is embarking on an incredible challenge to climb Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Scotland, the UK, and the British Isles. This isn’t just a personal adventure; Pete, along with two lifelong friends, Pete Flint and Paul Simms will be scaling the 1,345-meter peak to raise awareness and vital funds for Mates in Mind, a charity committed to improving mental health in the construction industry.
Pete Canavan, Managing Director, Edge Careers said“Mental health continues to be a pressing and often under-addressed issue within the construction industry. At Edge Careers, we are deeply committed to fostering a culture where open communication, empathy, and proactive support are encouraged. This initiative is about more than just raising funds, it represents an opportunity to spark meaningful conversations and drive lasting change within our industry”
Mates in Mind is a leading UK charity which enables organisations of any size, to proactively improve the mental wellbeing of their workforce. They provide the skills, clarity and confidence to businesses on how to raise awareness, improve understanding, implement effective interventions and address the stigma of mental ill-health. As a result, they help organisations, across construction and related sectors, to build positive mental health in and through work.
Laura Howdill, Corporate Fundraising Manager at Mates in Mind, highlighted the importance of collective action:We know that far too many people within the construction industry are experiencing mental ill-health, and that it needs an industry wide approach to tackle this crisis – by breaking down the barriers that prevent people from accessing support. It is encouraging to see companies like Edge Careers taking proactive steps to raise awareness and foster greater understanding of mental health across their teams. Their commitment to this issue is a positive example for the sector as a whole."
