Andy Winkett Takes Part in Charity Golf Day

Yesterday (Wednesday 5th July) our Senior Executive Recruitment Consultant, Andy Winkett took part in EPIC’s (Every Professional in Construction) charity golf day.

The charity golf day was set up to celebrate EPIC’s 40 year anniversary and was played in aid of Ehlers-Danlos Support UK a charity that has been supporting people affected by the syndromes (EDS) for 30 years and Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, which provides lifesaving care across Essex, Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas.

It’s fair to say the day was a massive success with the golfers raising an incredible £16,000 for the two charities.

Charity Dinner Raises £3,000

Charity Evening

Edge Careers along with the group businesses for brum have made a donation to the great charity Alex’s Wish. Stuart Smith, one of our principal recruitment consultants, was humbled to be invited as guest of Morgan Sindall for a charity dinner to raise money for the great cause. Alex’s Wish was created to fund the battle against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a severe and progressive muscle wasting disease. Alex is 10 years old and if the disease follows its classic course it will leave him in a wheelchair by age 12 and paralysed by his teens and not live beyond his twenties. At this moment in time there is no cure, this is why Alex’s Wish was created. Their mission is to raise £1m by 2020 to get into the hands of the world’s leading scientists who have the best chance of finding a cure.

The evening managed to raise £3,000 for the charity and was supported by guest speaker and England Rugby world cup winner, Neil Back.

Morgan Sindall’s attendance at the charity dinner was only a small part of their ongoing support of Alex’s Wish, with members of the company completing a charity bike ride form London to Paris, which raised over £22,000.

What To Do After An Interview

After you leave an interview you can be stuck in tandem and you may not know what to do. Edge Careers has taken a look at what you can do after an interview to get help you with your progression in the interview process.

Send an Email

One of the easiest things to do is to send an email to the interviewer just to thank him/her for taking the time to meet with you and for giving you the opportunity to apply for the position.

You can also go over anything that you may have forgotten to say during the interview or strengthen any points that you feel need to be reiterated.

Contact Your Recruiter

If you are at your interview through a recruitment agency then you should contact your recruitment consultant after your interview to give them your feedback. This will also then push them to get feedback off the interviewer so you can have more clarity on what is happening going forward.

They can also guide you through the process and give you advice on what to do next and answer any questions you may have come away with.

Make Notes

If you have left the interview and your head is a bit all over the place, then make a few notes. You may want to jot down some positives and negatives about the role and the company to give you a clearer insight into whether it is the right company and the right role for you.

Clear Your Head

If you are heading back to work after your interview, it would be wise to take a couple of minutes to just clear you head and make a few notes, so that when you go back into work you are not distracted.

Notify Your References

If you have been asked by the interviewer to provide references, then you should get in contact with them first so that they know that a call may be coming and will be prepared to sing your praises.

Follow Up With the Interviewer or Recruiter

If you haven’t heard from either your recruiter or the interviewer after a reasonable amount of time, don’t be afraid to chase it up yourself. It is important not to harass the interviewer though, as they can be very busy people, so if they haven’t come back to you they may have just been too busy. The last thing they want to see is 5 missed calls from you.

If you have had an interview through an agency, give your consultant a call and they may be able to tell you why there has been a delay in feedback from the interviewer.

At Edge Careers we understand the importance in meeting with every candidate during the recruitment process, we believe it to be beneficial to all of our consultants for many reasons.

Firstly, because meeting a candidate means a consultant is able to make a more personal connection, enabling them to build trust and understand a person’s wants and needs, also validating the candidates interest in looking for a new role as they have taken time out of their busy schedule to meet with you.

A further benefit of meeting a candidate is that it makes it easier to ascertain where their strengths, and weaknesses, lie. Allowing you to build a profile on a candidate, which can then be submitted to a client putting yourself in a stronger position, as it is easier to explain why a candidate can fit into an organisation and a role when you have met them and understand what they can bring to the table, and, how they can do so.

If a candidate cannot arrive on time to meet with you, will they arrive on time to meet a client? Whilst scheduling meetings with candidates can be time consuming, they help recruiters to understand which candidates possess better interview skills and other qualities, which cannot be learned from a CV.
