This Christmas at Edge Careers we decided to support a charity that not only needs increased awareness but practical help.
Street Link is a government-funded service which allows people to alert local authorities in England and Wales about rough sleepers in need of support in their area. We contacted our local Outreach programme, who cover Redditch & Bromsgrove, to ask how we could assist them.
Knowing that this service will contact professionals who will try to find people and help them access things like shelter and food is a hands on approach that in the Winter months especially is a potential difference between someone surviving the cold spell or potentially not.
We decided with our contacts at Outreach to put together emergency rucksacks containing some essentials such as a torch, a warm hat, double layered socks, gloves, a travel mug for hot drinks or soup, some basic toiletries such as tooth brushes and hand sanitiser/wipes. A few items that will make an immediate difference to people who really need some kindness this Christmas.
The Outreach programme is vital in helping those less fortunate. If you can spare anytime or winter essentials that could help someone we urge you to please head to https://www.ccp.org.uk/ to find out how you can help or call the Caring for Communities and People team on 0300 365 8999.
